KiteFest will include many activities for the experienced flyer as well as the novice. The sky will be painted with hundreds of kites flown by anyone who wants to "go fly a kite."
There will be team demonstrations by experienced kiters. The two-lined kites are flown in synchronized figures and patterns by three or more kiters. There will also be kiters flying four-lined kites in patterns never dreamed of by the kiters of yesteryear.
KiteFest will offer kite making for even the youngest kiter and a place to fly their new kite. Candy drops from a large kite will occur several times during the day for the kids. Large bags of candy are released from a kite in the sky and the kids may scramble for their share. |
Several Master Class kiters will demonstrate new kites and flying
techniques. Troy Gunn, a Master Class flyer from Wichita Falls,
will fly two two-lined kites at the same time to a music accompanied
ballet. Richard Dermer Stillwater, Oklahoma resident and past president
of the American Kitefliers Association, will be displaying miniature kites. |

LibertyFest is proud to present Thunder Roll. They will be performing at KiteFest and the Taste of Edmond. Thunder Roll is The Air National Guard Band of the Gulf Coast's popular music group. They are one of the most requested ensembles of today's Air Force and Air National Guard. This high-energy group dares any audience to resist the urge to dance. They have achieved thunderous applause by presenting Billboard's current number one hits to the most timeless pop/soul music of our time.
They travel throughout the United States performing at public concerts, civic and military functions, public schools, and abroad delivering the best of today's popular music in support of the United States Air Force and Air National Guard.
These activities and many others will take place at the park between
9:30 A.M. and 5:00 P.M. and Thunder Roll will begin playing at 6:30 P.M. on Saturday, June 27th. |

After sundown on Saturday the kiters will return to the park to perform a night-fly. Lights will be placed on the
two-lined kites and flown together. Many have described this as an experience with UFO's. This is a "must see"
especially for those who have never witnessed a night kite fly.
Sunday, June 28th, from 9:30 A.M. until 4:00 P.M. is dedicated to kite flying. Everyone is invited to bring and fly a
kite or watch the kite flying.

So, for a fun filled two days of kite flying or just kite watching, come to
Mitch Park and join us. Many kiters will be there to show everyone the
latest in kites and kite flying and answer questions about kites. Maybe
even allowing you to try your "hands" at flying a two-lined kite.
For those who don't own a kite, kite vendors will be on
hand to show
you their best.
